How to export your Instagram data
Instagram needs a JSON format export — not HTML.
- 1.Open Instagram and go to your Profile.
- 2.Tap the menu icon (≡) in the top right, then tap Your activity.
- 3.Scroll to the bottom and select Download your information.
- 4.Tap Request a download and choose Some of your information.
- 5.Select the categories you want — at minimum, select Followers and Following. You can also select Activity (likes, comments, etc.) for richer analytics.
- 6.Under Format, make sure to select JSON (not HTML). Set the date range as desired and tap Submit request.
- 7.Instagram will email you a download link, typically within a few minutes to a few hours.
- 8.Download the ZIP file and upload it directly to FollowerViewer — do not unzip it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is FollowerViewer free to use?
Yes. The Free plan gives you full access to core analytics with one snapshot upload per platform. The Pro plan unlocks unlimited uploads, unfollower tracking, growth trend charts, and snapshot comparisons.
Does FollowerViewer access my Instagram account or password?
No. We never ask for your Instagram password or connect directly to your account. You upload a data export file that you download from Instagram yourself — we only process the file you provide.
How long is my data stored?
Your data is stored in a secure, encrypted database and can only be accessed through your authenticated account — no one else can view it. You can delete any snapshot at any time from your dashboard. If you delete your account, all associated data is permanently and irreversibly removed.
Is my data shared with third parties?
No. Your Instagram data is never sold or shared with third parties. It is used solely to generate your analytics. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Which platforms are supported?
Instagram is fully supported right now. Support for additional platforms is on our roadmap.
How often should I upload a new snapshot?
Upload a new snapshot whenever you want a fresh comparison — weekly or monthly works well. Pro users can upload as frequently as they like to track changes over time.
What does "non-mutual" mean?
A non-mutual follow means you follow that account but they do not follow you back. "Reverse non-mutuals" are accounts that follow you but you don't follow back.
Can I see who unfollowed me?
Yes — but you need at least two snapshots. Upload your current export, then upload another one later. FollowerViewer compares both and shows exactly who appeared in the first snapshot but not the second (unfollowers) and any new followers since. This requires the Pro plan.
